Physical Education (P.E.)
The P.E. program at Mauka Lani Elementary School promotes a healthy lifestyle for your student through physical activity. During P.E., students use their bodies in a variety of ways to participate in games and physical activities. Students also learn about the basic benefits of physical activity and are encouraged to participate both inside and outside of the school setting. Please make sure your child wears athletic shoes and brings water on RPO days.
In health class students learn knowledge and skills for living a healthy lifestyle. Students practice setting healthy goals, making healthy decisions, communicating with others, and promoting healthy messages. The K-5 health curriculum includes lessons on nutrition, physical activity, personal hygiene, safety, and living a drug-free lifestyle.
As part of the 5th grade curriculum, students will also be studying the changes of puberty that usually begin about this time in students' lives. This area of study is part of the Hawaii Content and Performance Standards III (HCPS III) for Health Education. We will be using HealthTeacher.com curriculum. This state-approved curriculum is aligned with HCPS III as was reviewed for age-appropriate, factually accurate, and medically accurate content. A copy of the curriculum and lesson will be made available for parents to review at the front office.
